The Institute of Archaeology continues to be a leading centre of global research in archaeology, cultural heritage and museum studies, as evidenced by the scope of ongoing research projects. Below, some 165 ongoing projects are outlined and plotted on maps of the world (Figure 1) and regions (Figures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7), showcasing the span of research. Of these, 17 projects are currently being undertaken in Africa, 13 across the Americas, 53 in Britain and Ireland, 32 in continental Europe, 43 in the Middle East, North, South and East Asia, and 4 in Southeast Asia and Oceania. Several more projects with a broader theoretical or conceptual focus, or projects which are more international in scope, cannot be regionally situated and, thus, are not included on these maps. Details, however, are provided in the ‘International and non-geographical projects’ section. Further details of all the projects included here are available through the Institute’s website, either through individual staff pages or the Institute’s various research centres, research networks and research themes.1

All maps were made by the author in qGIS, using an ESRI Satellite base map. Continuing with the previous issue of Archaeology International, the maps here all utilise the Equal Earth (ESRI: 54035) map projection, with the world map oriented south up.
