UCL Press Journals Achieve New Indexing Milestones

Posted by Ian Caswell on 2025-07-30

UCL Press is pleased to share that two more of our journals have achieved important indexing milestones: both the History Education Research Journal and UCL Open Environment have been officially indexed in Scopus.

This progress reflects UCL Press’s mission to support high-quality, accessible and non-commercial academic publishing that amplifies underrepresented fields and promotes research with real-world relevance.

Why Indexing Matters

Inclusion in Scopus – one of the world’s largest abstract and citation databases – reflects the quality, integrity and academic contribution of these journals and the communities they serve.

For authors, it enhances the visibility, credibility and citation potential of their research, ensuring it reaches a broad global audience of fellow researchers, educators, institutions and policy makers. This boosts both academic recognition and real-world impact.

UCL Press recognises that discoverability is central to impact. Indexing in databases like Scopus helps ensure important research is not siloed or overlooked but widely accessible to all and positioned to inform practice, policy and further scholarship.

History Education Research Journal and UCL Open Environment: Trusted Platforms for Open Research

History Education Research Journal is a dedicated, open access journal exploring how history is taught, learned, and understood across formal and informal educational settings. Also indexed in DOAJ, ERIH and other platforms, History Education Research Journal is growing as a vital space for interdisciplinary research in education and humanities.

UCL Open Environment is an interdisciplinary, open access journal supporting collaborative, high-quality research tackling a broad range of environmental-related subjects. With no APCs, UCL Open Environment is committed to equitable access, openness and community-led environmental scholarship. It is also indexed in PubMed Central and Europe PMC, DOAJ and additional platforms, reinforcing its relevance to academic and policy-facing audiences.

Both journals reflect community-centred publishing: led by committed editorial teams, shaped by contributor feedback, and grounded in ethical, flexible publishing practices.

Growing Visibility Across UCL Press Journals

These recent achievements build on a broader trend: UCL Press Journals are increasingly represented in respected indexing platforms, reflecting the growing influence and high standards of our open access publishing model.

In addition to Scopus, titles across our portfolio are indexed in platforms such as Web of Science, ERIC, and PubMed Central. All journals are discoverable via DOAJ, Dimensions, EBSCO, OCLC (World Cat), Baidu and Google Scholar.

Our Commitment to Open Access

UCL Press operates on a full Open Access model: all content is free to read, and free to publish, enabling both authors and readers to access our journals without barriers. We prioritise equity, transparency, and academic freedom, placing scholarly integrity at the heart of everything we do.

This model allows us to support fields that are often overlooked by commercial publishers, champion underrepresented voices, and build academic communities rooted in collaboration and purpose – not profit.
